PALEOTREK 2002
During the summer of 2001 we discovered a large Triceratops and the beast was partially excavated in June 2002.
A Triceratops is a huge ceratopsian dinosaur having three horns and the neck heavily armored with a very solid frill. Triceratops lived 67-65 million years ago, they were herbivorous and could be up to 9 meters(29.5ft) long.
This is an important specimen.
It died in place approximately 65.5 million years ago. The site is approximately 20 miles north of Jordan, Montana and south of Ft. Peck Lake in the Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation. Dinosaurs were first discovered here exactly 100 years ago, including the first T-rex. These were some of the last dinosaurs to roam the earth before their extinction.
During the 2002 field season we located an outstanding baby Triceratops skull.
